Delhi: Home Isolation Covid Cases See Six-Fold Rise In 2 Weeks, Hospitalisations Still Low

Delhi CM Arvid Kejriwal has been reiterating that even though the cases are rising, the hospitalisation rate has been low so the citizens do not need to worry. 

New Delhi: As the covid10 cases are on a surge in the national capital, the number of home isolation patients has seen an over six-fold increase from 447 on April 11 to 2,812 on April 24, official data revealed. The number of patients that have been hospitalised in this period has also increased from 17 to 80. However, the Delhi government has assured people that despite the rise in cases, hospitalisation has remained low. 

Delhi recorded 1,083 covid19 cases on April 24 which has taken the active caseload to 3,975 from 601 on April 11.

The hospitalisation rate has been low so far accounting for less than three percent of total active cases, the data showed. 

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvid Kejriwal has been reiterating that even though the cases are rising, the hospitalisation rate has been low so the citizens do not need to worry. 

Delhi saw a sudden increase in the number of home isolation patients which stood at 504 on April 13 and was recorded at 574 the next day, rising to 685 on April 15. While the number crossed the 700 mark on April 16, it rose to 964 on April 17. 

On April 18, the number crossed the 1,000 mark and reached 1,274 on April 19. April 20 continued to see the rise at 1,574 and the number reached near the 2,000 mark the next day. 

While the number of cases is seeing a rapid surge, the number of containment zones has remained constant and has not seen any significant rise. Contrary to that, the number of containment zone declined to 656 on April 24 form 741 on April 11. 

During the third wave of covid-19, the daily cases in Delhi had touched the record high of 28,876 on January 13. The positivity rate recorded at that time was 30.6 percent on January 14, which was the highest during the third wave. 

According to a report by news agency PTI, experts have attributed the rise in cases to human behaviour saying that there is little reason to worry as most of the population has immunity because of vaccination and previous infection. 

However, the Delhi government brought back the mas mandate within weeks of lifting it owed to the rise in cases. Now, anyone caught violating the mask rules will be fined Rs 500.
