New Delhi: A Delhi girl has been unable to take out her scooty ever since she got it because of the strange number plate assigned to her by the Delhi Regional Transport Office (RTO). The RTO has assigned her a number plate with the word S-E-X on it, making it impossible for her to take out the scooty for a ride, a report in DailyO said.

The unique number plate became a subject of ridicule and mockery whenever people noticed it on the scooty, leaving the girl red faced. However, the strange issue is being faced by everyone who are going to register their two-wheelers at any Delhi RTO.

In Delhi, two-wheelers are denoted by the letter 'S'. Presently, as per the sequence, the two letters in circulation are 'E' and 'X' for registration of two-wheelers. So, the number plate of a new scooty will inevitably have 'SEX' on it. This issue will happen till the numbers in the 'EX' series are exhausted.

The Delhi-based fashion designing student has to travel from Janakpuri to Noida every day and was requesting her father for a scooty for almost a year. After a lot of convincing, her father presented her with the scooty on November 3. However, the student is now saddled with a problem she wouldn't have ever expected.

“The aunties of my neighbourhood are calling me besharam (shameless). Everyone around me is bullying me," she told DailyO.

As soon as the scooty got the identification number, the family noticed the letters ‘SEX’ on the number plate. As a result, they tried to get the number changed but the efforts were in vain.

"A large number of cars and scooters have received such a number, and your daughter is not the queen of the world that she will get a new one," the dealer from where the scooty was bought told the girl's father.

Delhi Transport Commissioner KK Dahiya told India Today that there was no provision for getting a number changed for a vehicle. "There is no provision to change the number that has been allotted to a vehicle. There is a set pattern that is followed during the process of generating a registered number," he said.

How Are Numbers Allocated To Vehicles

A vehicle’s registration number consists of four parts. The first part has two alphabets that represent the state. The second part is a two-digit sequential number that represents a district or the code for the RTO office of the area. The third part consists of one or two or three alphabets from the ongoing series of the particular RTO. And the last part has unique digits from 1 to 9999.
