New Delhi: With days left for the crucial Delhi Assembly Election 2020, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched the election campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the national capital. Lambasting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, said to be BJP's toughest competition in the elections, Shah said that if a competition to make false promises is held in the country, Delhi Chief Minister will win the first prize.
Shah also alleged that the AAP leader had forgotten the promises he had made to the people of Delhi. "If there is a competition in the country of making false promises, Kejriwal would definitely get the first prize. I have come to remind you that you forgot the promises you made, but neither the people of Delhi nor BJP workers have forgotten," he said.
Shah was speaking at a rally in southwest Delhi's Matiala constituency where Kejriwal held a roadshow earlier in the day. Both the leaders vied attention of voters with their promises made and not fulfilled by their political opponents.
"You became CM with the help of Anna Hazare but couldn't bring a law for Lokpal and when Modi ji brought it you didn't implement it here," Shah said alleging that for four and a half years the chief minister kept saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not let him work so development could not be done in Delhi.
"Now, you (Kejriwal) are saying that you developed Delhi in five years so 'lage raho Kejriwal'," he said. Shah’s remark was in a sharp criticism to the AAP’s poll campaign anthem song ‘Lage Raho Kejriwal’
The minister also blamed both AAP government and Congress party for instigating youth and minorities to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Shah also said that the statements of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal were similar to the statements of Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan.
Surrounded by scores of supporters, Delhi CM also took out a roadshow in the area earlier in the day. AAP also launched a campaign named 'kaam ki chai' with the famous Ahemdabad based MBA Chai Wala from its party headquarters.
As the election nears in the national capital, Kejriwal is out on streets with roadshows seeking votes for the party. Reportedly, the AAP chief held five roadshows in five assembly constituencies. The Delhi Chief Minister is leading the February 8 election campaign in the city, among the party's 39 star campaigners.
Even the BJP has made big plans to wrest Delhi from ruling AAP - drawing up a list of 40 star campaigners, led by PM Modi. The list includes star campaigners like Amit Shah, Smriti Irani, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Vijay Goel and the new party chief JP Nadda.
State leaders' contingent is led by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and the party's poster boy Yogi Adityanath. The AAP had bagged 67 out of the total 70 Assembly seats in Delhi, and is now aiming for to repeat the show this time.
