New Delhi: The decomposed body of an unidentified man was found hanging from a tree in a forest area of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University on Friday evening, said the police, reported news agency PTI.
The police said that they were informed about the body at around 6:30 pm as per the report.
Police visited the spot and found a body in a highly decomposed state hanging from a tree in the jungle area. The victim appears to be in the 40-45 age group, a senior police officer said.
The police further said that crime and forensic teams had been called to the spot for examination and the body is yet to be identified, adding that an inquest proceeding has been initiated.
Quoting sources from the university, the news agency reported, “It seems that the body is not of someone from JNU. The body was found in the jungle near Yamuna Hostel. A couple of students had gone for a walk in the jungle where they sensed a foul smell and alerted the authorities."
In another development from the university, the JNU administration on Thursday had confirmed that they have received a complaint of harassment and investigation has been initiated in the matter.
A first-year undergraduate student had written to the university administration accusing two seniors of harassment and inflicting “exceptional psychological duress”, the news agency had reported.
"This is to bring to your notice that two senior students have been harassing me since I came to campus in February," wrote the student in the letter to chief proctor Rajnish Kumar Mishra.
"For the last three months I have been under exceptional psychological duress. Because of this, I have been depressed for the last three months and my life on campus has become increasingly intolerable due to the acts of these people," the student added.
