A senior official with the Delhi Police said on Friday that two individuals from Haryana were apprehended for allegedly firing at a head constable. The assault happened on Wednesday in Sonipat's Ashok Nagar neighbourhood, according to police. "On November 15, the Sonipat Police had received a PCR call regarding firing incident on a Head Constable of Delhi Police who was identified as Parveen. He had received serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital. And FIR was registered and a manhunt was launched," Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav was quoted by PTI in its report.
Following the occurrence, the Delhi Crime Branch assigned a team to work on the investigation.
Based on information collected through surveillance, the team set up a trap near Samalkha in Panipat and apprehended two Sonipat residents, Sushil, 39, and Shilak Ram, 50.
According to Yadav, the two have admitted to being engaged in the shooting.
They said that a close colleague of theirs, Rajesh Nain, was feuding with Parveen.
According to him, on November 15, the two, together with Nain and others identified as Bijender and Babla, went to the chief constable's residence with the intent of killing him.
"When Parveen opened the gate of his house, Nain fired a shot at him and fled," Yadav was quoted by PTI in its report.
He stated that the investigation is still ongoing and that the other defendants would be apprehended shortly.
Meanwhile, local shopkeepers chose to shut down markets on Friday in reaction to escalating tensions in Gurugram's Nuh neighbourhood. In response to the tragedy, shopkeepers, largely Hindus, did not open their stores or commercial premises on Friday. Their call for police action against stone-pelters was key to their protest. The police in Haryana's Nuh district got a report of several ladies being stoned. An FIR was filed in response to the complaint, according to ANI.
