New Delhi: A Delhi court extended the police custody of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi for another five days in connection with a case under Arms Act, on Sunday, news agency ANI reported. The Patiala House Court extended the police custody after Bishnoi was produced following a five-day remand. He was sent to police custody on May 31, according to the report. Delhi police will now take him to Jodhpur and Ganga Nagar in Rajasthan for further investigation.

This comes days after Bishnoi withdrew his petition from the Delhi High Court seeking necessary safeguards as he apprehended a "fake encounter" by Punjab Police.

It is to be noted that Lawrence Bishnoi’s name surfaced some days back in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala on May 29.

“Court has agreed to 5-day custody demand of Delhi Police for Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with Arms Act case. Nowhere in its application did Delhi Police mention Moose Wala murder probe against Bishnoi,” ANI quoted Bishnoi’s lawyer, Vishal Chopra, as saying.

According to the report, Delhi police sought another five-day remand to arrest the persons whose names come up during interrogation of Bishnoi.

The plea for extension of police custody was not opposed by Advocate Chopra.

According to the investigation officer, Bishnoi gave three names – Ranjit, Sam Singh and Vijay – who used to supply arms to the gang.

The officer further said that police teams have been dispatched to Uttarakhand and Punjab in search of Ranjit. Apart from this, the accused is to be taken to Ganga Nagar and Jodhpur in search of Ranjit and Vijay.

Notably, Lawrence Bishnoi was arrested in a case related to Arms Act, registered at Narela Police Station following which he was sent to police custody by the court.

It is to be noted that Bishnoi is also accused in a case, under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA), and is under trial before the Special Judge of Patiala House Court. He was lodged in the Tihar jail.
