Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday that former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia improved government schools in the national capital in five years, which is why he was arrested.
Addressing a public gathering at Chhattisgarh's Raipur, the Delhi CM said: "They (BJP) won't put 40% commission people in jails, Manish Sisodia is 'Saadhu', such a 'Saint-Mahatma' was put behind bars, Modiji should be ashamed of it".
Arvind Kejriwal is on a one-day visit to Chhattisgarh's capital Raipur to assist the AAP workers to prepare for the state's Assembly elections later this year. Kejriwal was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and the two addressed a party workers' convention in Raipur.
In response to Kejriwal's visit to the state, chief minister Bhupesh Baghel stated that elections are approaching and that individuals from various parties will be there, as they have in the past. "It isn't new that they have come to the state, they (AAP) lost their deposit earlier as well," CM Baghel was quoted as saying by ANI.
The AAP tried its luck for the first time in the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections in 2018, fielding candidates in 85 of 90 seats but failing to win. But, a landslide victory in Punjab last year boosted the party's national ambitions.
Despite winning only five seats after mounting a high-decibel campaign in Gujarat, where the Bharatiya Janata Party won a record 156 seats, the party received about 13% of the vote.
On Saturday, the AAP announced its intention to run for all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, which goes to the polls at the end of this year.
The visit of the AAP's top leadership and their engagement with party workers would improve preparations for the Chhattisgarh assembly elections, according to Gopal Rai, a Delhi minister, and the party's state election in charge.
