New Delhi: The Delhi Assembly’s Peace and Harmony Committee has summoned actor Kangana Ranaut over her derogatory remarks on the Sikh community. Ranaut has been asked to appear before the committee before December 6. Delhi MLA and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Raghav Chadha is the chairman of the committee.
After the Prime Minister’s announcement of repealing the farm laws, Ranaut took to her Instagram and called India a “Jihadist nation” and allegedly called for a dictatorship in India.
Without naming anyone, Ranaut allegedly called the Sikhs “Khalistanis” and said that the one woman PM (Indira Gandhi) crushed them under her feet.
“Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today... But let's not forget one woman... The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke neeche crush kiya tha (the only woman PM who crushed them under her shoes),” Ranaut wrote on her Instagram story.
“The Committee has received multiple complaints eliciting outrageously offensive and derogatory Instagram stories/posts allegedly published by Ms. Kangana Ranaut, the film actress, on her official Instagram Account namely @kanganaranaut. According to the complainants, the stories published by Ms. Kangana Ranaut on her Instagram Account which has a massive reach and is being followed by around 80 lakh of people worldwide, specifically illustrates the instances which hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh Community and has a tendency to disturb the peace and harmony of the society,” a statement issued by the committee said.
Ranaut was recently awarded Padma Shri. After her comments, a delegation led by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa met the Additional Commissioner of Mumbai Police, west region to discuss legal action against her.
“We have filed an FIR against Kangana Ranaut in Khar Police Station. We demand legal action against her for her remarks that entice communal hatred for Farmers & Sikhs. We will also be meeting Commissioner of Police, Mumbai & Maharashtra Home Minister to ensure action,” Sirsa tweeted.
They demanded that Kangana “should be arrested for spewing venom against the farmers and Sikh community.”
Sirsa had filed a complaint against Ranaut on Saturday for her “hateful” comments and demanded that her Padma Shri should be taken back.
After filing the complaint, Sirsa wrote on his Twitter, “The day is not far when she will be behind the bars for misusing freedom of speech.”
