New Delhi: In a bid to give real-time information on the status of check-in baggage to passengers in the terminal, the Delhi airport has introduced a personalized baggage tag that is enabled by radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, news agency PTI reported. A statement issued by its operator GMR Group-led DIAL on Wednesday said the Delhi airport is the first Indian airport to introduce this facility to keep a track on baggage.
According to the statement, a passenger can purchase this tag at the airport, scan the QR code on it and then register it on the website bag.hoi.in.
After successful registration, the passengers will start receiving SMS alerts along with the details of baggage, on their registered mobile number, when their baggage arrives at the Delhi Airport, the statement said.
"Once the tag is registered, all a passenger has to do is to tie the tag or place it into their check-in luggage," it noted, adding, “They will get the message on their mobile that their luggage is ready to be picked up at the designated baggage belt.”
The statement further added that the 'BAGG TRAX' tags will soon be commercially launched for passengers at the Delhi airport.
Notable, at present, the BAGG TRAX tags are provided to select frequent flyers at Terminal 3, as part of the pilot project. Once it is commercially launched, the flyers can buy it in the departure sections of any of the terminals at the Delhi airport, the statement said.
BAGG TRAX tag will not only help the domestic and international arrival passengers, but also those in transit, to track their checked-in baggage, the statement added.
