New Delhi: A fresh intelligence input shared on Wednesday warned of a possible terror attack as a large group of terrorists from Pakistan has possibly infiltrated into the Indian territory in Punjab and adjoining regions. According to reports, defence bases in Punjab and Jammu area have been placed on high alert. "The defence bases in and around Punjab and Jammu are on high alert. The Indian Air Force has put its airbases in Punjab including Pathankot and Jammu on orange alert," government sources told news agency ANI.

"The inputs were received by forces today morning after which they are taking all precautions to protect the defence bases," they said. A similar intel was given earlier was security agencies warning that the terrorists would try to launch an attack on the Indian security installations.

Several defence bases in regions such as Pathankot, Jammu, Srinagar and others have been put on a high alert. An orange alert is just below the red alert. A few days ago, the bases were on high alert but the alert levels were brought down a couple of days later, sources said.

There have been reports of a possible terror attack on major defence facilities since August 5 when the Centre moved to abrogate Article 370 that granted a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Late last month, intelligence agencies had issued a warning against a module of eight to ten Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists. The input suggests that the terror group may possibly try to carry out a suicide attack against air force bases in and around Jammu and Kashmir. All major Indian Air Force (IAF) bases were put on high alert following the intelligence report.

Earlier this month, security arrangements were heightened in New Delhi after intelligence agencies revealed that four heavily-armed JeM terrorists have entered the city and plan to strike ahead of the festive season, according to multiple reports.

We have inputs that there may be a terrorist attack in the southern part of India. Some abandoned boats have been recovered from Sir Creek. We're taking precautions to ensure that designs of inimical elements and terrorists are stalled,” a police official had said.

Intelligence sources informed that raids were conducted with the help of the Special Cell of Delhi Police at several locations across Delhi after the sources suggested that three to four members of a terror outfit may have infiltrated into the city. Even in August, major cities in Tamil Nadu, especially capital city Chennai and Coimbatore were placed under high alert citing potential terrorist attacks.
