Kolkata: Debashish Acharya, the man who slapped Trinamool Congress MP Abhishesk Banerjee 6 years ago, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in West Bengal. According to reports, Debashish was brought to a hospital by some unidentified men on Thursday where doctor declared him dead.


Debasish was found injured near Tamluk Toll Plaza in West Usatpur where he was spotted lying injured and was taken to the Tamluk district hospital in Midnapore in a critically injured condition. 


The Police are investigating the cause of his death and it is not certain whether he was victim of a road accident.


After hearing about his sudden death, Debashish's family rused to the hospital. Later on they claimed that Devasish had been murdered.


Soon after the incident came to light, several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised questions about his mysterious death. 


Debasish became centre of a controversy after he slapped West Bengal Chief Minsiter Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishesk Banerjee during a public meeting in 2015.


Debashish was arrested by the Police. Later, Abhishek forgave him and he was released. In February 2020, Debasish had joined hands with BJP, ahead of the Assembly Election.
