New Delhi: A day after Congress President Rahul Gandhis mahila jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the National Commission for Women on Thursday issued a notice to Gandhi. The notice has accused the Congress president of insulting a woman minister.

The letter read that comments made by Gandhi are “extremely misogynistic, offensive, unethical, and shows extreme disrespect toward the dignity and honour of women in general”.

The notice further read that “The commission strongly condemns such a irresponsible and disparaging views of persons holding responsible positions.”

The notice further sought a detailed explanation from Gandhi for making the statement.

This comes after Gandhi took on PM Modi and said “PM ran away & asked a 'mahila' (Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman) to defend him”.

Even PM Narendra Modi hit out at Gandhi and other opposition leaders for his comments and accused them of "insulting" Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the first woman to occupy the post, and said the “opposition parties will have to pay a price for it”.

Addressing a public meeting in Agra, he said that the country has seen how the opposition leaders tried to disrespect Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha when she was exposing their bundles of lies bit by bit, referring to the debate in the Lok Sabha on the Rafale deal.
