Cyclone Tauktae: Viral Video Of Structure Falling On Vehicles Parked Near Trident Hotel In Mumbai Turns Out To Be Fake

The video being shared comes with a claim that with a wind speed of 70 to 90 kilometre per hour, vehicles parked near Trident hotel at Nariman Point in Mumbai have undergone a lot of damage. 

Mumbai: A fake video that claims to be showing trees and structures falling on vehicles parked near Trident hotel at Nariman Point in Mumbai is being circulated on social media.

This comes as Cyclone Tauktae continues to create wreak havoc in Maharashtra and considerable damage to property has been witnessed in the coastal areas.

The video being shared comes with a claim that with a wind speed of 70 to 90 kilometre per hour, vehicles parked near Trident hotel at Nariman Point in Mumbai have undergone a lot of damage. 

However, the claim is false. Official clarification states that no incident of tree/structure fall on vehicles is reported near Trident hotel in Mumbai. Video circulating on social media is false.

 A section of users is now saying that the video was of July 2020 and the incident in concern took place in Madina in Arab.

 

Nevertheless, the video overall has no connection to the current scenario in Mumbai caused by Cyclone Tauktae. Usually, fake news and claims are spread during such situations. However, it is better to not spread them across without having an official verification.

The IMD on Monday afternoon upgraded the warnings for Mumbai with 'extremely heavy rainfall' with gusty winds that will escalate up to 120 kmph.

The cyclone hovering around 160 km away from the Mumbai coast this morning, is likely to make a landfall in south Gujarat coast by midnight tonight, said the IMD's latest warning bulletin.
