Cyclone Remal: Remal has made its landfall in Bangladesh, the impact of which has already been felt in West Bengal. The state police have provided a helpline for emergencies. The state power distribution company has also set up a helpline number. The state administration has said it is fully prepared in the coastal areas.

Somnath Dutta, Eastern Director of the Alipore Meteorological Department, said, "The very severe cyclonic storm will move northwards and gain more strength. Tonight, it will cross between Sagardwip and Khepupara near Mongla in Bangladesh as a very severe cyclonic storm. Wind speeds will be around 110-120 km/h, with a maximum possible speed of 135 km/h."

There is a warning for very heavy rainfall. Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar in the north may experience very heavy rain. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in both Dinajpur districts and the hilly districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

People Moved To Shelters, Advisory Issued For Tourists
The state administration has said 35 shelters have been opened in 15 village panchayat areas of the Tarkeshwar Assembly constituency to deal with Remal. The shelters are equipped with dry food, sufficient drinking water, and alternative lighting arrangements in case of power outages. Additionally, each panchayat area will have a disaster management team on standby, and every panchayat office will remain open at night. Tarkeshwar MLA Ramendu Singha Roy said local representatives have been instructed to remain alert and help the people.
Tourists have been prohibited from visiting beaches in Digha, Tajpur, and Mandarmani in West Bengal. The police made announcements through loudspeakers, advising people to take shelter in safe places. Local representatives are also trying to help people in their respective areas, particularly those living in kuchha houses, by moving them to safer shelters.
On Sunday morning, several families living in kuchha houses near the Damodar River embankment in areas under Santoshpur, Keshabchak, and Talpur panchayats were being moved to shelters. A temporary shelter has been set up at Santoshpur Bishalakshi Uchcha Balika Vidyamandir in the Tarkeshwar block.
