New Delhi: In a setback to CRPF in Raipur, at least 25 of its personnel were on Monday died in an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.


More than 300 Naxals attacked CRPF personnel.

Chhattisgarh CM called emergency meeting later on Monday after 25 CRPF personnel lost their lives. Six were reportedly injured. Those injured in CRPF-Naxals encounter in Chhattisgarh's Sukma shifted to hospital in Raipur and Bastar IG Vivekanand Sinha and DIG Sunderraj left for Sukma.

CM cancelled his engagements in Delhi and rushed for Raipur where he will hold a meeting later on Monday.





According to newsagency PTI, the encounter took place at around 12.25 PM between the Burkapal-Chintagufa area of the worst Maoist violence-affected district in south Bastar area of the state.

"The Naxals fired at a patrolling party of the CRPF near Burkapal village leaving six personnel injured," Special Director General (anti-Naxal operations) of Chhattisgarh Police, D M Awasthi told PTI.

The jawans who were injured in the fierce battle are from the 74th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). It also includes an Inspector-rank officer. All of them are being evacuated from the spot by a helicopter.



Earlier this year, 12 CRPF soldiers were killed in the same district in a deadly ambush by Naxals.
