New Delhi: Following the Holi celebrations on Monday, Several videos related to the festival went viral on social media. One such video surfaced from Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, capturing an incident where a couple was subjected to mistreatment by the crowd.
In the viral video, it can be seen a couple being mistreated by the crowd. Despite the large number of people present, no one intervened as they threw water and jeer at the distressed pair.
In the video, people can be heard hooting, while others urging the woman to leave quickly, saying, "Bhabhi, go away quickly."
A social media user named Gurpreet Singh Maan shared the video on X, and captioned it, "This video from Varanasi is so horrific. Some goons are harassing a woman in front of her partner in the name of Holi celebrations. This act is shameful."
Outrage has erupted on social media over the incident.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Holi, another viral video purportedly showed a group of Holi celebrants harassing a man and two women in Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.
The video captures a scene where a man and two women on a motorcycle are surrounded by a group of youngsters. The revellers can be seen spraying water on the women from a pipe, despite their protests. The situation escalates as buckets are seen to be used to pour water on the women, and the revelers forcefully apply colour on the man and one of the women's faces.
Police took swift action following the circulation of the viral video. One individual has been arrested, and three minors have been detained in connection with the incident, police said.
