Covid-19 Vaccine: RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav, on Friday, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take the first shot of Covid-19 vaccine. Casting doubt on the safety and efficacy of the two vaccines, Yadav’s statement comes on a day, the Centre is conducting nationwide dry run for vaccination process.

Tej Pratap, the eldest son of RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav, said he will take the covid-19 vaccine jab only after Prime Minister gets inoculated first. While there is a section of people including opposition leaders and medical experts raising doubts over the approval, the government maintains that due process has been followed and the vaccines are safe for being administered.

Before Tej Pratap, Bihar Congress leader Ajit Sharma had also made similar remarks and said that Prime Minister Modi should take the first shot of COVID-19 vaccine to assure the people of the country.

Last week, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) granted restricted emergency use authorisation to two Coronavirus vaccines 'COVAXIN' by Bharat Biotech and 'Covishield' by Serum Institute of India.

Meanwhile, the government is conducting the second phase of nationwide dry run. The exercise is aimed to check the best way to vaccinate people against the novel Coronavirus and work upon the loopholes in logistics. The mock drill will assess its ability and readiness to administer shots to hundreds of millions of people by testing the preparedness for the vaccine rollout.

The lessons learnt from the earlier exercise will be made use to execute another dry run
