Countries Ganging Up To Form Groups And Pushing Their Own Rules Is Unacceptable: Xi Jinping At BRICS Summit

New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday expressed his disapproval of countries coming together to form groups and promote their own rules. The Chinese President delivered his remarks during the plenary session of the 15th BRICS Summit which is underway in Johannesburg in South Africa.

His remarks comes after China, opposing the growing ties between US and Taipei, carried out military drills near the Taiwan border.

Speaking at the BRICS plenary session in Johannesburg, Xi Jinping said that International rules must be written and upheld jointly by all countries based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter rather than dictated by those with the strongest muscles or the loudest of voices.

"BRICS countries should practice true multilateralism, stick to solidarity and oppose division," he asserted.

Notably, BRICS is a grouping of the world economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Addressing the plenary session, Jinping stated, "Human history will not end with a particular civilisation or system. BRICS countries need to champion the spirit of inclusiveness and advocate peaceful coexistence and harmony between civilisations. We should respect all modernisation paths that each country chooses on its own and oppose ideological rivalry, systemic confrontation and clash of civilisations."

He stated that China will also work with all parties to jointly establish the BRICS framework on industrial cooperation for sustainable development.

"We need to make good use of the BRICS Foreign ministers' meeting, a meeting of high representatives on national security & other mechanism; support each other on our core interests and enhance coordination on major international and regional issues. We need to tender good offices on hotspot issues pushing for political settlement and lowering the temperature," Jinping added.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, PM Narendra Modi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov were a part of the group photo.
