Lucknow: Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of Medanta Hospital in Lucknow after his condition was reported to be serious.
The senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, who was serving his jail term in the Sitapur District Prison, was taken to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow after his health deteriorated suddenly on Sunday. On April 30, Azam Khan and his son Abdullah were confirmed to be infected with Covid-19.

The Samajwadi Party leader, his wife Tazeen Fatma and his son were sent to jail in February last year in connection with several cases including land grabbing and encroachment.
Earlier, Deputy Jailor Omkar Pandey had said that Azam Khan's health suddenly worsened. His oxygen level started to range between 90 and 92. After this, a panel of three doctors led by Dr. D. Lal of the district hospital conducted a checkup. Khan was then referred to be taken to Lucknow.
CMO Dr. Madhu Garola, ADM Vinay Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police, North Dr. Rajiv Dixit, SDM Sadar Amit Bhatt CO City Piyush Kumar Singh reached the jail. But Azam Khan became adamant about not going. After several hours of persuasion, he agreed.
Then at about 6:40 in the evening, Azam Khan and his son Abdullah were sent by ambulance to Lucknow. Azam Khan was taken to the Lucknow border with SDM Sadar Amit Bhatt, CO City Piyush Kumar Singh, Khairabad Inspector OP Rai Gard and the Police Line Force.
No official has yet officially confirmed the status of Azam Khan's health.
