Maharashtra Sees Highest Daily Count Of 47,827 Covid-19 Cases

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 47,827 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily count since the coronavirus pandemic began. The new figure took the state tally of positive cases to 29,04,076. As many as 202 coronavirus patients died in the state on Saturday, taking the death toll to 55,379

There's Still A Possibility Of Complete Lockdown In Maharashtra: Uddav Thackeray

On the backdrop of significantly surging cases of Coronavirus across Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday addressed people of the state and said that there is still a 'possibility' of complete lockdown to tackle the concerning situation of Covid-19. 


"I want to appeal to everyone once more today. We have become a little complacent. Everything has started – weddings, agitations, as if coronavirus has completely gone. We have to be careful," Thackeray said in his address.

Situation In 11 States, UTs Matter Of 'Serious Concern', Says Centre

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Friday chaired a meeting on the COVID-19 situation in the country in which it was pointed out that eleven states and Union Territories (UTs) were showing a surge in daily cases and they have not shown commensurate increase in enforcement of containment activities. These states and union territories have been categorised as "states of grave concern" on account of their high and rising daily COVID-19 cases and deaths.

Jammu & Kashmir Govt To Fast-Track Vaccination In 4 Districts

Amid rising COVID-19 cases across the country, Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to fast track vaccinations, and strictly implement test, trace, treat strategy, COVID appropriate behavior to counter the spread. The decision has been taken after a meeting of Cabinet Secretary, Rajiv Gauba, with the Chief Secretaries of all the States and Union Territories. 


Immediately after the meeting, government of Jammu and Kashmir announced carrying out a fast-track vaccination drive to cover all persons in the eligible age groups in four districts including Jammu, Srinagar, Budgam and Baramulla showing maximum number of COVID cases.

Situation In Delhi Under Control, No Plans To Impose Lockdown: Arvind Kejriwal

In the last few days, COVID19 cases in Delhi have been rising. 3,583 new cases have been reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours. This rise in cases now is the fourth wave. We are taking all possible measures, there is no need to worry," Arvind Kejriwal said after his review meeting with Health Minister. 


Further while speaking to media, Kejriwal also said that AAP-led Delhi government has no plans of imposing lockdown in the national capital and situation here is under control. He also said that in case there will be a need of lockdown in future, it will be thoroughly discussed.

India Overtakes US In Daily Covid Cases

Meanwhile, India has overtaken the US to become the country with second-highest daily Covid-19 cases in the world. Brazil leads the chart with 91,097 cases recorded in the last 24 hours. The country recorded 81,466 new Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. About 77,718 new cases were reported in the US on April 1. India has been witnessing a spike in cases since the last three weeks.

Maharashtra CM To Address People At 8:30 PM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to address people of the state today at 8:30 pm on the backdrop of significantly rising Coronavirus cases in the state. During his address, CM is expected to announce guidelines and measures people need to take in order to contain the spread Covid-19.

Coronavirus Live Updates: Taking the daily number of Coronavirus infections to an all-time high since October, India on Friday recorded 81,466 new cases. With this, country's overall caseload jumped to 1,23,03,131. The death toll increased to 1,63,396 with 469 daily new fatalities. 


It is worth noting that the country is recording a spike in cases for over three weeks. States like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh are logging steep rise in daily new cases. Meanwhile, The active cases have now increased to 6,14,696 comprising 5 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 93.89 per cent.
