Coronavirus LIVE Updates: India on Wednesday reported its first death linked to the Omicron coronavirus variant in Rajasthan.
Odisha government has issued a new guideline. Night curfew will be imposed from 9 pm to 5 am, starting tomorrow. A total of 100 guests allowed in weddings and 50 at funerals: S.K. Priyadarsi, Police Commissioner, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack told news agency ANI.

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation has decided to shut offline sessions for classes 1 to 8 till January 31 to avoid crowding and contain the spread of coronavirus infection here in Maharashtra.
But, physical sessions for students of classes 9 to 12 are permitted, the civic body said in a release on Wednesday.
The district administration has also decided to close resorts and farm houses in rural areas here.
Also, in cases where COVID-19 infected people want to avail the facility of home isolation, it is mandatory that their family members should be fully vaccinated, Aurangabad Collector Sunil Chavan said in a release.
The leaves of government employees and semi-government staffers have also been cancelled, it said.
The decisions to check the spread of COVID-19 were taken after a meeting of the district task force members and medical experts on Wednesday.

Four more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Punjab on Wednesday, while 1,811 more cases took the state's infection tally to 6,08,723, according to a medical bulletin.
Punjab has been witnessing a surge in the number of infections for the past few days. The state reported 1,027 cases of the infection on Tuesday.
The COVID-19 positivity rate in the state also rose to 7.95 per cent from 6.49 per cent a day before.
The four new Covid-related fatalities pushed the toll to 16,657.
Patiala was the worst-affected district with 598 fresh infections, followed by Mohali with 300, Ludhiana with 203 and Jalandhar with 183, the data showed.
The number of active cases climbed to 4,434 from 2,686 a day before.
Forty-four more people have recovered from the infection in Punjab, taking their number to 5,87,632, the bulletin showed.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Chandigarh reported 229 COVID-19 cases, taking its total count to 66,493.
The Indian Medical Association on Wednesday requested the Centre and states to ensure that Covid duty of resident doctors do not exceed eight hours a day and after a week there should be a quarantine 10 to 14 day quarantine period in accommodation prescribed by the hospital.
In the event of a Covid duty doctor falling ill, they should be hospitalised at the earliest.
In a statement, the doctors' body said in case of untimely death, the status of Covid martyr and compensation as well as case-wise assistance should be arranged.
There should also be a provision for taking care of the mental health of doctors, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said.

New Delhi: Covid-19 cases increased by 6.3 times in the last eight days in India, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Wednesday said. The ministry also said that Omicron was the predominant circulating strain in the country.
Dr V.K. Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, said the precautionary Covid-19 vaccine dose would be the same vaccine as has been given previously. “Those who have received Covaxin will receive Covaxin, those who have received primary two doses of Covishield will receive Covishield,” he said.
Meanwhile, India on Wednesday reported its first death linked to the Omicron coronavirus variant in Rajasthan. The man, who tested negative for the infection twice, died in a Udaipur hospital on December 31.

India registered a single-day rise of 58,097 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest in around 199 days, taking the total tally of cases to 3,50,18,358. The active cases were recorded above 2 lakh after around 81 days, according to Union Health Ministry data.
The country’s Covid death toll has climbed to 4,82,551 with 534 daily fatalities, the data stated.

Meanwhile, 2,135 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected across 24 states and UTs. Maharashtra recorded the maximum number of 653 cases followed by Delhi at 464, Kerala 185, Rajasthan 174, Gujarat 154 and Tamil Nadu 121 cases.
