Manila: The Philippines' food and drug agency said on Friday it has approved the emergency use of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Indian company Bharat Biotech.
Bharat Biotech has received "full emergency use authorisation" for its Covaxin brand after the company completed documentary requirements," Food and Drug Administration chief Rolando Enrique Domingo told a news briefing as reported by the news agency Reuters.

As on Thursday, Maharasthra has reported a total of 60,07,431 Covid cases, higher than France which has recorded a tally of 57,62,322 till date, and figures at No. 4 in the world behind the US, India and Brazil.
Compared to 508 deaths declared on Wednesday, the state reported 556 fatalities on Thursday, including 197 new deaths and 359 earlier casualties, taking the state's overall Covid death toll to 119,859, the worst in the country.
The number of fresh cases fell below the 10K-level to 9,844 on Thursday, much less that the record peak of 68,631 reported on April 18, taking the state's overall Covid tally to 60,07,431.

On the brighter side, as many as 9,371 fully cured persons returned home on Thursday, taking the state's total number of recoveries to 57,62,661, with a recovery rate of 95.93.
The Mumbai Circle, comprising Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, recorded a drop in new cases, from 2,515 a day before to 2,313 on Thursday.
With this, MMR's Covid tally went up to 15,83,950, while 47 more fatalities took its Covid death toll to 31,581, in view of reconciliation of the data.
Meanwhile, the number of people sent to home isolation increased to 632,453 on Thursday, while those shunted to institutional quarantine came down to 4,166. (IANS)
Guwahati: Assam's Covid-19 tally rose to 4,93,688 on Thursday as 2,781 more people tested positive for the infection, while 34 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 4,344, a health bulletin said.
Golaghat district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 249, followed by Sonitpur (228) and Dibrugarh (182), it said.
Jorhat reported the highest number of fresh fatalities at five, followed by four in Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Tinsukia and two each in Charaideo, Darrang and Hojai.
The state now has 29,667 active cases, while 4,58,330 people have recovered from the disease thus far, including 3,604 in the last 24 hours.
The recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state stands at 92.84 per cent, while the mortality rate is at 0.88 per cent.
A total of 1,347 coronavirus patients have died due to other causes to date.
The state has so far tested over 1.42 crore samples for Covid-19, including 1.24 lakh in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.24 per cent.
A total of 65.14 lakh people have been inoculated thus far. (PTI)

Delhi recorded eight deaths and 109 fresh cases of coronavirus infection on Thursday as the city's positivity rate dipped to 0.14 percent, according to data shared by the Health department here.
The new fatalities have pushed the death toll due to the disease in the city to 24,948.
On Wednesday, Delhi recorded 111 Covid-19 cases and seven fatalities, while the positivity rate stood at 0.15 percent.
On June 14, the city had registered 131 cases and 16 deaths, while on February 22, there were 128 cases of Covid-19, according to official figures.
On Monday, Delhi had reported 89 coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 0.16 percent, both lowest this year so far, while 11 people died, according to the data.
The city's infection rate, which had reached 36 percent in the last week of April, has dipped below 0.20 percent now.
Despite the recent fall in daily cases, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has cautioned that chances of a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic are quite real, asserting that his government is preparing on a "war-footing" to combat it.
Tamil Nadu recorded 6,162 fresh coronavirus cases, including three returnees from Andhra Pradesh, pushing the overall caseload to 24.49 lakh while the toll mounted to 31,901 with 155 additional deaths.
As many as 9,046 people got discharged today, taking the total recoveries to 23,67,831 leaving 49,845 active infections, a medical bulletin said on Thursday.
Coimbatore and Erode reported an excess of 500 cases each while 18 districts reported new infections in double digits.

The number of Covid-19 related fatalities in the State capital also reached 8,131.
The testing of RT-PCR samples stood at 1,70,283 in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 3.18 crore.
As many as 28 victims were patients without any co- morbidity or pre-existing illness including a 26 year old girl from Krishnagiri who succumbed due to Covid-19 pneumonia.
