Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: Maharashtra Reports 10,697 New Cases, 360 Deaths; Recover Rate Crosses 95% Mark
Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Saturday, June 12, 2021: In a concerning development, Maharashtra's daily Covid-19 deaths shot up to a new peak, above the 2,000 level, while new infections remained above the 11,000 mark for the second consecutive day. On the other hand, Delhi reported 238 new Covid cases and 24 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Madhya Pradesh on Saturday recorded 337 new coronavirus infections which raised its caseload to 7,87,909, while the death toll reached 8,534 with 24 new fatalities, the Health Department said. A total of 985 patients were discharged from hospitals since Friday evening, taking the count of recoveries to 7,74,600, the department said.
With 96 new cases, Indore district's caseload went up to 1,52,437, while that of Bhopal district rose to 1,22,607 with addition of 93 infections.
Mumbai reported 733 new coronavirus infections and 18 fatalities on Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The caseload in the country's financial capital rose to 7,15,879, while the death toll rose to 15,164.
There are 15,798 active COVID-19 patients in the city now as 732 patients recovered during the day. So far, 6,82,678 persons have recovered from the viral infection in the city, at the recovery rate of 95 percent.
Weekend curfew would be in force from 7 pm on June 18 to 5 am on June 21. Night curfew would be in force on each night on remaining days between 7 pm to 5 am during the aforementioned period: Karnataka Government
Karnataka government allows economic and other activities in a graded manner w.e.f. 6 am of June 14 to 6 am of June 21, wherein weekend and night curfew are proposed to be imposed.

The Rajasthan government on Saturday announced a financial relief package for children who lost their parents to the coronavirus.
Under the package, ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh and a pension of Rs 1,500 a month will also be provided to women who lost their husbands to the infection, according to an official statement. For children of these widows, Rs 1,000 a month per child and Rs 2,500 a month for school books and dress will be provided, it said.
The package, which was announced by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, has a provision of Rs 1 lakh as immediate grant for children, who lost their parents to Covid, the statement said. It said that Rs 2,500 a month will be provided as assistance to these children till 18 years of age, Rs 5 lakh assistance on completion of 18 years and free higher secondary education, besides other benefits proposed under the Mukhyamantri Corona Bal Kalyan Yojna.
A four-day special 'vaccination festival' would be held in the Union Territory of Puducherry from June 16 to administer jabs to all those above 18 years as part of efforts to contain the Covid pandemic.
Health Secretary T Arun said in a release on Saturday that Puducherry was witnessing a decline in fresh cases of coronavirus. This was due to the intensive implementation of steps to combat the virus and sustained cooperation of the public in observing the safety protocols, the release said.

"A renowned international magazine in an article speculated that India suffered perhaps 5-7 times excess deaths than official Covid-19 deaths. Studies used by the magazine as an estimate of excess mortality aren't validated tools to determine the mortality rate of a country/region," it contended.
"It is a speculative article, which is without any basis and seems to be misinformed. The unsound analysis of the said article is based on the extrapolation of data without any epidemiological evidence," the ministry maintained.

"The chances of the third wave of Covid-19 are real. Delhi government is working on a war footing to prepare for the third wave,": Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said on the occasion of the inauguration of oxygen plants at nine hospitals in the national capital.
Talking about the third wave, the Delhi CM said that cases in the UK are rising due to the Delta variant despite a large population having been vaccinated. Although, the infections are mostly not that serious.
About Delhi's oxygen crisis, the CM said that 150 to 200 mt tonnes of medical O2 supply is required on regular days but the demand went up to 700 tonnes amid Covid second wave.
22 Oxygen plants are being inaugurated taking the total to 27. He thanked the Centre for contributing with 4 of them.
Delhi’s first drive-through vaccination centre has shut down after two weeks of functioning after the Centre capped vaccine rates for private hospitals.
“Delhi’s First Drive-Thru, a highly safe, convenient way for the public, which we ran non-stop for 15 days, we have decided to stop now, owing to new vaccination pricing, as running it has become unviable now,” read a statement by the hospital issued on Friday.
The first drive-through vaccination centre, organised by Aakash Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital, had been inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at Vegas Mall, Dwarka, on May 26.
The shots at the centre were initially been priced at Rs 1,400 per dose of Covishield. According to hospital officials, approximately 10,000 people have been vaccinated there.
Gurugram: All private hospitals in the Gurugram district can now start Covid-19 vaccination drive for 18+ age group of people. For this, Civil Surgeon Gurugram, Dr. Virendra Yadav has given permission to all the hospitals.
Dr. Yadav has said in a letter to all the hospitals that they can start the Covid-19 vaccination for the age group of 18 to 44 years in the hospital for 24x7 a day.
"An individual wishing to take the vaccine will have to make an online appointment for the first and second doses. Instructing the hospitals to do the vaccination work in accordance with the instructions of the government. Also, an emergency medical services should be available at the vaccination sites so that any adverse situation can be handled," Yadav said.
Yadav said that this decision has been taken with a view to providing vaccination facilities to the people to protect them from the deadly virus.
Apart from this, the number of total active cases in Gurugram district is 452 out of which 414 patients are in home isolation.
The officials said so far, 15,69,758 Covid tests have been conducted in Gurugram, of which 13,85,057 have come negative. In the last 24 hours, around 4,243 tests were conducted in the district.
Also, a total of 8,33,129 people have been administered with Covid jabs in Gurugram.
According to the daily health bulletin, 1,79,140 people have recovered so far in Gurugram.
Apart from this, the Gurugram district on Friday recorded 33 fresh coronavirus cases. Three more deaths were also reported from the city, taking the district's Covid toll to 866, officials said. (IANS)
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday announced a 100-day action plan to help the state tide over the economic slowdown triggered by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The plan will focus on increasing agricultural production, generating quality employment and augmenting health infrastructure, among other things, and would be implemented between June 11 and September 19.
The aim is to enable the building of a knowledge-based economy with a focus on science and technology and skill development, Vijayan told reporters here.
"The emphasis will be on policies and schemes to advance the achievements of health, education and social security, accelerate economic growth and create quality employment.
"Utmost importance will be given to poverty alleviation, elimination of economic and social inequalities, implementation of eco-friendly development perspective and adoption of modern solid waste management practices conducive to a healthy urban life," he said.
In addition to increasing agricultural production, the chief minister said, the production of non-toxic food is also a priority.
Vijayan said loans worth Rs 5,898 crore have been sanctioned by international financial institutions such as World Bank, German bank KFW and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for the Rebuild Kerala Initiative (RKI).
"After the state's share is added, Rs 8,425 crore will be available for RKI projects. In the next 100 days, nine road projects worth Rs 945.35 crore will be started using the RKI funds," he said.
In addition, the Public Works Department (PWD) will complete projects worth Rs 1,519.57 crore in these 100 days, he said.
A government release said the 100-day action plan includes projects worth Rs 2,464.92 crore through the PWD, the RKI and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board.
"K-DISC (Kerala Development And Innovation Strategic Council) is completing an ambitious project of providing employment to 20 lakh educated people in the state. All local self-governments will prepare a draft plan to create employment for five persons out of 1,000 people," it said.
Approximately 77,350 direct and indirect job opportunities will be created in 100 days under various departments, including 10,000 jobs each in the industries and commerce department, 2,000 in Kudumbashree, and 7,500 in the transport department, among others, it said.

Against 1,915 deaths declared on Thursday, the state now revealed a whopping 2,619 fatalities (comprising 406 new and 2,213 earlier deaths), taking the toll to 106,367.
The number of fresh cases dropped from 12,207 on Thursday to 11,766, to send the tally to 58,87,853.
In Mumbai, for the 15th consecutive day, the new infections remained below the 1,000 level, but went up from 655 on Thursday to 721, taking the city tally to 714,216. Deaths went up from 22 a day earlier to 24, to take total fatalities in the country's commercial capital to 15,079.
The number of active cases rose from 160,693 to 161,704, while 8,104 fully cured patients returned home, taking the total to 56,16,857, while the recovery rate dropped from 95.45 per cent to 95.04 per cent.
On the other hand, Delhi reported 238 new Covid cases and 24 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was at 0.31 per cent, according to the health bulletin.
Delhi has a total of 3,922 active cases, out of which 1,238 are in home isolation.
A total of 504 people recovered in the same period, taking the total so far to 14,01,977.
With the new cases and fatalities, the cumulative tally has gone up to 14,30,671, while the toll has risen to 24,772.
For the first time in 2 months, Covid test positivity rate declined below 5 per cent in a day across Karnataka, while case fatality rate was up at 1.92 per cent on Thursday, said the state health bulletin on Friday.
"Positivity rate declined to 4.86 per cent on Thursday from 6.58 per cent on Wednesday across the state," said the bulletin.
With 159 patients, including 48 in Bengaluru succumbing to the infection across the state, the case fatality rate rose marginally to 1.92 per cent on Thursday from 1.75 per cent on Wednesday.
The state's death toll rose to 32,644 and the city's toll to 15,263 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.
Out of 1,69,695 tests conducted across the state during the day, 50,320 were through rapid antigen detection and 1,19,375 through RT-PCR method.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday announced the extension of the lockdown by another week till June 21 with some relaxations that includes opening of liquor shops in 27 districts.
The current lockdown comes to an end on June 14.
