Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Saturday, June 12, 2021: In a concerning development, Maharashtra's daily Covid-19 deaths shot up to a new peak, above the 2,000 level, while new infections remained above the 11,000 mark for the second consecutive day, health officials said on Friday.
Against 1,915 deaths declared on Thursday, the state now revealed a whopping 2,619 fatalities (comprising 406 new and 2,213 earlier deaths), taking the toll to 106,367.
The number of fresh cases dropped from 12,207 on Thursday to 11,766, to send the tally to 58,87,853.
In Mumbai, for the 15th consecutive day, the new infections remained below the 1,000 level, but went up from 655 on Thursday to 721, taking the city tally to 714,216. Deaths went up from 22 a day earlier to 24, to take total fatalities in the country's commercial capital to 15,079.
The number of active cases rose from 160,693 to 161,704, while 8,104 fully cured patients returned home, taking the total to 56,16,857, while the recovery rate dropped from 95.45 per cent to 95.04 per cent.
On the other hand, Delhi reported 238 new Covid cases and 24 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was at 0.31 per cent, according to the health bulletin.
Delhi has a total of 3,922 active cases, out of which 1,238 are in home isolation.
A total of 504 people recovered in the same period, taking the total so far to 14,01,977.
With the new cases and fatalities, the cumulative tally has gone up to 14,30,671, while the toll has risen to 24,772.
For the first time in 2 months, Covid test positivity rate declined below 5 per cent in a day across Karnataka, while case fatality rate was up at 1.92 per cent on Thursday, said the state health bulletin on Friday.
"Positivity rate declined to 4.86 per cent on Thursday from 6.58 per cent on Wednesday across the state," said the bulletin.
With 159 patients, including 48 in Bengaluru succumbing to the infection across the state, the case fatality rate rose marginally to 1.92 per cent on Thursday from 1.75 per cent on Wednesday.
The state's death toll rose to 32,644 and the city's toll to 15,263 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.
Out of 1,69,695 tests conducted across the state during the day, 50,320 were through rapid antigen detection and 1,19,375 through RT-PCR method.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday announced the extension of the lockdown by another week till June 21 with some relaxations that includes opening of liquor shops in 27 districts.
The current lockdown comes to an end on June 14.

Madhya Pradesh Reports 337 New Covid Cases, 24 Deaths
Madhya Pradesh on Saturday recorded 337 new coronavirus infections which raised its caseload to 7,87,909, while the death toll reached 8,534 with 24 new fatalities, the Health Department said. A total of 985 patients were discharged from hospitals since Friday evening, taking the count of recoveries to 7,74,600, the department said.
With 96 new cases, Indore district's caseload went up to 1,52,437, while that of Bhopal district rose to 1,22,607 with addition of 93 infections.
Mumbai Reports 733 Covid-19 Cases, 18 Deaths
Mumbai reported 733 new coronavirus infections and 18 fatalities on Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The caseload in the country's financial capital rose to 7,15,879, while the death toll rose to 15,164.
There are 15,798 active COVID-19 patients in the city now as 732 patients recovered during the day. So far, 6,82,678 persons have recovered from the viral infection in the city, at the recovery rate of 95 percent.
