Coronavirus Cases HIGHLIGHTS: India reports 1,31,968 new COVID 19 cases, 61,899 discharges, and 780 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry.
Ahead of the weekend lockdown in Maharashtra, BMC commissioner Iqbal Chahal said that the vaccination drive will continue to take place in all Government and BMC centres of Mumbai tomorrow and the day after.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik in a message said: "The second wave of COVD19 has started, this is why lockdowns and night curfews have been imposed in many states of the country, but if we follow the COVID rules properly we can avoid situations like lockdowns in the state."
Tamil Nadu government on Friday said that 'night curfew and additional curbs' may have to be clamped if several efforts aimed at preventing the coronavirus spread and bringing down the caseload does not yield results.
If several measures to contain the virus-like fever camps and reintroduction of some restrictions, effective April 10, did not yield the desired results, 'night curfew and additional curbs' may have to be imposed, the government said.
All steps were being taken to tackle the 'second wave of coronavirus' the government said, adding it has been decided to conduct 'vaccination festivals' in all the districts from April 14 to 16. This is to ensure 100 per cent vaccination for eligible sections of people, including health and frontline workers and those aged above 45.
On Friday, Tamil Nadu reported 5,441 fresh virus cases and a total of 33,659 active cases.
So far 9,78,71,045 vaccine doses have been administered in the country including 32,16,949 vaccine doses given today.
As per the Health Department, Maharashtra reported 58,993 new COVID-19 cases and the tally rose to 32,88,540. The death toll due to coronavirus increased by 301 and now stands at 57,329 in the state.
Delhi has witnessed an upsurge in coronavirus cases as the total new active cases in the last 24 hours were 8,521, which is the highest for this year. The positivity rate is pegged at 7.79% and 39 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours due to coronavirus.

Ahead of the weekend lockdown to be imposed in Maharashtra, there are several questions in the mind of citizens concerning orders issued for imposing restrictions to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. In this regard, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has issued an FAQ via his Twitter handle clarifying all the confusions.
To ensure seamless wheat procurement commencing from Saturday amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Punjab government has set up COVID-19 vaccination camps in all 154 market committees across the state. The camps are for inoculating persons above the age of 45 years visiting grain markets during the current rabi marketing season. Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Lal Singh said the mandi board is fully geared up to accomplish the task of wheat procurement amid the trying times of pandemic.
Rajasthan records 3,970 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the infection count to 3,54,287, while 12 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 2,898 on Friday.
Four deaths were reported from Udaipur, three from Banswara and one each from Barmer, Jodhpur, Kota, Rajsamand and Pali, an official report stated.
Of the fresh cases, a maximum of 767 infections were recorded in Jaipur, followed by Jodhpur 498, Kota 439, Udaipur 360, Dungarpur 340 and Bhilwara 245, among others.
A total of 3,27,304 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the infection so far, while there are 24,085 active cases in the state.
Mumbai reports 9,200 fresh COVID19 cases and 35 deaths today. The total number of cases in Mumbai rises to 5,00,898; active cases at 90,333.
Kerala records 5,063 fresh COVID-19 cases, infection tally rises to 11.54 lakh; 22 more fatalities take death toll to 4,750.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said: "During elections, we couldn't maintain social distancing as needed. So the number of patients has increased considerably in the State. We are again taking strict measures to control the COVID19 pandemic."
East Coast Railway announced that all Odisha bound passengers from anywhere in the country, boarding on or after April 10 require an RT-PCR negative test report of a maximum of 72 hours before the start of the journey or final vaccination certificate.
In wake of the sharp rise in Coronavirus cases, Bihar has introduced new guidelines and restrictions to curb the spread of the virus. Pratyaya Amrit, Principal Secretary Disaster Management of Bihar on Friday announced that all shops are allowed to be open till 7 p.m.
Food joints and eateries are exempted and can function on 25% seating capacity. While cinema hall, public transportation can function with 50% occupancy. Essential services are exempted from all the restrictions as of now.
Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Friday saw a single-day spike of 6,489 COVID-19 cases and 64 casualties. With the latest additions, the tally of infections in the region rose to 2,66,224, while the toll reached 5,641, a district official informed PTI.
Of the fatalities reported so far, Nagpur city alone accounted for 3,535 deaths and the remaining were reported from rural parts of the district, he said.
At least 2,175 patients recovered from the infection during the day, taking the number of recoveries to 2,11,236, he said, adding that the district is now left with 49,347 active cases.
As many as 22,797 swab samples were tested during the day, raising the total number of tests carried out in the district to 17,80,571, the official said.
Jammu and Kashmir record 808 new COVID-19 positive cases taking the tally of active cases to 6115. With 4 more deaths, the total toll is now at 2023. Srinagar is emerging as the new corona hotspot, it recorded 299 new cases, including 47 travellers.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said those returning to the state due to the current COVID-19 situation, arrangements are being made for them. He also said that those coming by trains from Maharashtra will be tested for coronavirus at the railway stations only. Nitish Kumar also informed that the order for the closure of schools from April 5 to April 11 has been extended for one week.
A day after 37 doctors tested positive for coronavirus at Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, now 20 doctors at AIIMS Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19. Out of those, 2 are faculty members and the rest of them are resident doctors. AIIMS officials informed ANI that in addition to it 6 MBBS students have also tested coronavirus positive.

An 11-day 'yagna' against coronavirus began at the famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh on Friday. "Seventy-seven Hindu priests took part in the yagna," temple's assistant administrator and public relations officer R K Tiwari told PTI. The Shree Mahakal Temple Management Committee has organised the yagna with an aim to cast out COVID-19, for the public good and a healthy environment, he said. "It will go on during the day time and all the coronavirus-related guidelines will be followed," he said.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has tested positive for Covid-19. Taking to Twitter on Friday, Omar said he is asymptomatic and self-isolating.
"For a year I did my best to dodge this damn virus but it's finally caught up with me. I tested positive for Covid-19 this afternoon," Omar tweeted.
"I'm completely asymptotic. Based on medical advice I'm self-isolating at home and monitoring my parameters like oxygen saturation levels etc."

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, vaccination could not take place at 25 private Mumbai hospitals due to a shortage of doses on Thursday, the city civic body claimed. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in a release, said the jabs couldn't be administered at 25 of the 71 approved vaccination centres as the doses had run out of stock at these private facilities.
