As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India's Covid-19 case tally crosses 11 lakh mark with highest single day spike of 40,425 new cases & 681 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
The total cases now stand at 11,18,043 including 3,90,459 active cases, 7,00,087 cured/discharged/migrated & 27,497 deaths, the health ministry has said.
Total samples tested:
So far as many as 1,40,47,908 samples have been tested for Covid-19 up to 19th July. Of these 2,56,039 were tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said. Also Read: Coronavirus Can Cause Anxiety, Brain Damage Say New Study
Worst-hit states:
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,10,455 cases reported until Sunday.It is followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi in terms of Coronavirus infections.
India third worst-hit country:
India is the third most affected country in the world in terms of the number of corona infections after United States and Brazil. But taking into consideration the number of infected cases and mortality per 1 million population, India is in a much better position than other countries. The worrisome fact is that the growth rate of corona cases in the country also remains second in the world.
IIT-AIIMS Study Reveals Monsoon, Winter To Worsen Coronavirus Pandemic
According to a study titled "COVID-19 spread in India and its dependence on temperature and relative humidity, conducted jointly by researchers at IIT-Bhubaneswar and AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, experts are of the belief that with a continuous fall in temperature in the upcoming monsoon, post-monsoon, and thereafter, winter, the challenge will only become bigger and greater for India.
