New Delhi: India witnessed a record surge in its Coronavirus cases on Tuesday with 9987 fresh cases and 331 deaths in last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases now at 2,66,598.  Also Read: ICMR's Serosurvey: 30% Population In Containment Zones Exposed To COVID-19 And Silently Recovered


“Total number of cases in the country now at 266598, including 129917 active cases, 129215 cured/discharged/migrated and 7466 deaths,” Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated. As per the figures, there are currently 129917 active cases in the country. The most number of active cases are in Maharashtra, with more than 44 thousand infected people are being treated in hospitals. Total cases in Maharashtra has reached 88,528. National capital Delhi is at number two, with Tamil Nadu at number three, Gujarat at number four and Uttar Pradesh is at fifth position. India is at fourth position in the world in terms of active cases and in terms of total number of cases, India is at number 5, surpassing countries like Spain and Italy.  In terms of maximum cases recorded in the last seven days, India is at third position, after Brazil and United States.

Total number of cases in the world so far is 6,931,000, while deaths so far has reached 400,857, as per WHO data.  The chief of WHO has said that the situation of the pandemic is getting worse at the global level, warning countries to not get complacent if cases decrease.
