New Delhi: India again witnessed the highest-ever single day spike in Coronavirus cases and the maximum number of deaths in 24 hours, on Thursday. The total number of cases in the country inched closer to the 3 lakh-mark, with today’s spike. This is the first time the fresh deaths has crossed 350 in a day. At the same time a record 9996 new cases have also been registered. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has now jumped to 2,86,579. With as many as 357 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 8,102.

Out of the total number of cases, 1,37,448 are active, while 1,41,028 have been cured or discharged while 1 has migrated.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with 94,041 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (36,841) and Delhi (32,810).

According to stats presented by MohFW, there are currently 1 lakh 37 thousand active corona cases in the country. The most number of active cases are in Maharashtra with more than 46 thousand infected people being treated in hospitals. After this, Delhi is at number two, Tamil Nadu at number three, Gujarat at number four and West Bengal at number five. These five states have the most active cases.

After America, Brazil, Russia, Spain, Britain, India remains at the sixth place among the countries most affected by the pandemic. At the same time, the pace of increasing cases in India remains at number three in the world. After America and Brazil, the highest number of cases are being registered in India in one day.
