New Delhi: In yet another grim development, for the first time India has recorded over 17k fresh cases in a day taking the total number of cases closer to 5 lakh-mark. The 17,296 new cases jump is the biggest single-day spike for India so far. Over 400 fatalities have been reported in the last 24 hours. As per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare total positive cases in India stand at 4,90,401 including 1,89,463 active cases,2,85,637 cured/discharged/migrated & 15301 deaths.

However, the silver lining is the improved recovery rate of the country. As per the Union Health Ministry figures, the recovery rate has improved to 58.24 per cent with 2,85,637 patients being recovered. Worst-hit states:

Maharashtra continues to be the worst hit state with highest number of infections so far. It is followed by Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal respectively.

Total samples tested:

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the total number of samples tested up to June 25 is 77,76,228; the number of samples tested on 25 June is 2,15,446.

Deaths:

Of the 407 new deaths reported till Friday morning, 192 were in Maharashtra, 64 in Delhi, 45 in Tamil Nadu, 18 in Gujarat, 15 each in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Andhra Pradesh, 10 in Haryana, eight in Madhya Pradesh, seven in Punjab, six in Karnataka, five in Telangana, four in Rajasthan and two in Jammu and Kashmir.

Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand have reported one COVID-19 fatality each in the last 24 hours.
