New Delhi: India on Thursday witnessed the highest single-day spike in number of fresh Covid-19 cases and deaths reported from all across the country within 24 hours. India on Wednesday crossed 2 lakh coronavirus cases, and after Thursday’s surge of 9304 fresh cases, the tally has reached 2,16,919.The death toll has now surged past 6000-mark. India reports 9,304 new Covid-19 cases & 260 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in the country now at 2,16,919 including 1,06,737 active cases, 1,04,107 cured/discharged/migrated and 6,075 deaths, the Union Ministry Of Health & Family Welfare stated.

This is the highest single day spike in the number of Covid-19 cases (9304) & deaths (260) in India.

Since Sunday, India was witnessing over 8000 fresh cases everyday, until Thursday, when a record 9,304 cases were confirmed.

India is currently at the seventh position in the world in terms of infection spread, surpassing countries like Germany and Iran. It is now right behind Italy in the list. United States continue to be the worst-ravaged country with over 1.9 million cases and 109,142 deaths so far. Brazil , Russia, Spain, UK and Italy succeed US in this regard.

As per the Ministry of Health, the recovery rate of corona patients in India is continuously improving and stands at 48.07 per cent now, up from 11.42 per cent on April 15.  While the fatality rate is at 2.82% , which as per  the health ministry is amongst the lowest in the world, compared to a global fatality rate of 6.13%.
