Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday stated that the "Constitution has successfully stood the test of time for over seven decades, today this very Constitution faces a fundamental crisis, indeed an existential crisis for the spirit behind its text," as per the statement issued by him on the occasion of Constitution Day.
Further elaborating on the Constitution's crisis, he said that "this crisis finds its roots in the (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) RSS's ever-expanding reach within state institutions and the electoral (and by extension judicial) legitimacy of its ideology, with the (Bharatiya Janata Party) BJP being in power since 2014."
The Congress party president slammed the ruling BJP and RSS, saying that "the government has completely surrendered itself and its institutions to the RSS, an organisation that pushes hateful propaganda in the garb of social service. In fact, to use the terms RSS and BJP interchangeably is no longer incorrect ".
Kharge stated that the day that should be celebrated has lost its significance since the "BJP-RSS government" took power.
"On what should be a proud day for us all," the statement said, "we're witnessing the onset of what Baba saheb would have called to "lawless law," riddled with never-ending infringements on fundamental rights, systematically engineered by the BJP-RSS govt since they've been in power."
Constitution Day, also known as "National Law Day," is celebrated on November 26 each year in India to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The Indian Constitution was approved by the Constituent Assembly of India on November 26, 1949, and went into effect on January 26, 1950.
