Congress on Thursday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP MP Anurag Thakur made factually inaccurate and misleading statements in the House. He also sought appropriate action in the matter, news agency PTI reported.

The letter was written by Congress MP Manickam Tagore, who requested that provisions of Direction 115(1) be invoked over statements made by PM Modi and Anurag Thakur. Seeking action against the BJP leaders, he wrote: "requisite proceedings be initiated and appropriate action be taken in this regard”.

Under Direction 115(1), any MP wishing to highlight an inaccuracy in a statement made by another MP must write to the Speaker before raising the matter in Parliament.

The Virudhunagar MP flagged that Prime Minister Modi, in his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address, had stated that the Congress made a false promise of Rs 8,500 per month to women. Tagore clairifed that this promise was meant "to be fulfilled on victory and government formation".

He also challenged Prime Minister Modi's claim that the vote share of Congress has gone down in 16 states in which it contested independently. "This is factually incorrect. The Congress vote share increased in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Telangana etc.," Tagore replied in the letter.

'Grossly Misleading': Congress MP On PM's 'No Bullet Proof Jackets For Army' Claim

He also termed Modi's remarks that no bullet proof jackets [were provided] for the Army during the Congress’ time as as "grossly misleading."

"There was a shortage of jackets, not that jackets were not there. Even police had bullet proof jackets like in Mumbai attacks," Tagore said.

Furthermore, he also challenged PM Modi over the claim that the Congress didn’t provide fighter jets to the Indian Army.

He responded to this claim saying: "We had Jaguar, Mig 29, SU- 30, Mirage 2000."

Congress Flags Inaccuracies In Anurag Thakur's Lok Sabha Speech

Tagore also pointed out at the alleged inaccuracies in Thakur’s July 1 speech in the Lok Sabha, PTI reported.

The Congress MP stated that Thakur claimed that the Army was not given arms and fighter jets when the grand old party ruled the nation was also incorrect.

"We had Jaguar, Mig 29, SU- 30, Mirage 2000....We had nuclear bombs, missiles like Agni, Prithvi, Aakash, Nag, Trishul and later Brahmos," he wrote in the letter.

Tagore also dubbed Hamirpur MP's remarks that Prime Minister Modi has not taken a single holiday as factually incorrect and asked "Which category of leave is taken for election campaigns?"

Congress also highlighted the "factual inaccuracy" in Thakur’s claim that "25 crore people were brought out of poverty".
