New Delhi:  The Congress Party will launch three-phased ‘Mehngai Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ on the issue of inflation and fuel price hike from March 31 to April 7.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the protest will be launched in three phases on party president Sonia Gandhi’s instructions.

“The Congress Party has on the instructions of Sonia Gandhi ji decided to launch the ‘Mehngai Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ in three phases,” Surjewala told a media briefing in the national capital.

“The first will be held at 11 a.m. on March 31, the second between April 2 and 4 during which protests and marches will take place at the district-level.  The third on April 7 at the regional headquarters,” he added.

Escalating his attack on the Central government, Surjewala accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of favouring only the wealthy.

Holding the BJP responsible for inflation in the country, the Congress chief spokesperson alleged the “loot of acche din” has spoiled the budget of the Indians.

Continuing his outburst, Surjewala said Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has once again today increased the prices of petrol and diesel by 80 paise per litre.

“This is the fourth increase in five days. The petrol and diesel prices have with this gone up by Rs 3.20 a litre. This is betrayal and deceit with the people of the country,” he added.

The Congress Party also issued a statement in this regard.

“After keeping prices of Petrol-Diesel, Gas Cylinder, PNG & CNG unchanged for 137 days to secure votes, last one week has been a nightmare for budget of every household. Every day increase in prices proved the dictum for Modi Govt- “Fleece the People, Fill Coffers”,” Surjewala tweeted along with the statement.
