New Delhi: Sonia Gandhi, the Congress party's interim president, was diagnosed with a lower respiratory tract illness on Friday. Sonia Gandhi recently tested positive for COVID-19 and was taken to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. According to the party, she is still being closely monitored and treated in the hospital.
Sonia Gandhi was brought to the hospital on June 12 following bleeding from her nose, according to Congress chief spokesperson Jairam Ramesh, in a statement issued on his official Twitter handle.
"She was immediately put under treatment and underwent a related follow-up procedure yesterday morning," reads the issued statement.
According to the statement, after the Congress president was admitted to the hospital, doctors discovered a fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract.
"A fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract was also detected upon admission. She is currently being treated for it along with other post-Covid symptoms. She continues to be under close observation and treatment," the statement further reads.
National Herald Case
Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the suspected National Herald money laundering case. On June 23, she must appear before the central agency.
Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress president, has already appeared before the ED three times this week and will do so again on Monday.
