Four security force personnel sacrificed their lives during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag which continued for days. People across the country are mourning the loss of the bravehearts amid a growing chorus to avenge their supreme sacrifice. Meanwhile, Congress has trained guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not speaking over the issue so far. Party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate slammed the PM saying he was worried over a cricketer's broken finger and "has not said a word of tribute and condolence" for the soldiers who laid their lives.
"Today the whole country is in mourning, seeing the last rites of our martyred warriors and the pain of their families in the terrorist encounter of Anantnag, everyone is praying in one voice for them. But the Prime Minister of the country first kept celebrating, then kept on election campaigning - till now PM Modi has not said a word of tribute and condolence for those who made the supreme sacrifice. But this silence is not new," the caption of the video post on X, formerly Twitter' read.
Notably, in 2019, popular cricketer Shikhar Dhawan shared a video saying that he would not be the part of World Cup as his thumb had not fully recovered from the injury. Quoting the post, PM Modi said the pitch would miss him and wished him a speedy recovery.
"Dear @SDhawan25, no doubt the pitch will miss you but I hope you recover at the earliest so that you can once again be back on the field and contribute to more wins for the nation," the PM had said.
'Will Feel Extreme Pain If You Listen To Relatives'
Shrinate said the PM writes in different languages to wish and express grief over incidents abroad and is more worried about the broken finger of a cricketer but "cannot speak on the sacrifice of soldiers".
She said that listening to relatives of the soldiers would make people feel the extreme pain they are going through. Shirnate added that the mother of Major Ashish, who died in the Anantnag encounter, said that "if the government had given the soldiers bulletproof vest, this would not have happened".
"Jammu and Kashmir's Humayun Bhatt will not be able to see the face of his 29-day-old child," Shirnate said adding that at this time "PM of the country was celebrating G20 at the BJP headquarters and then went on to campaign for MP elections".
Congress also listed various terror incidents, from October 2021 to September 2023, when Indian soldiers lost their lives for the country and said that " Modi ji did not say a word".
"On October 11, 2021, five brave men were martyred in the terrorist attack in Surangkot tehsil of Poonch. Four brave men were martyred in the terrorist attack in Poonch on October 16, 2021. On August 11, 2022, 5 brave men were martyred in the terrorist attack in Pargal area of Rajouri. Five brave men were martyred in the terrorist attack in Poonch on April 20, 2023," she said.
"Five brave men were martyred again in the terrorist attack in Rajouri on May 5, 2023, three brave men were martyred in the terrorist encounter in Kulgam on August 5, 2023," she added.
"On August 19, 2023, 9 brave men were martyred when an army truck overturned in Ladakh. On September 13, 2023, 3 brave men were martyred while protecting the borders in Anantnag," the post read.
