Rajya Sabha by-election: The Congress has declared Rajni Patil as its candidate for the by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat from Maharashtra. According to a statement issued by Party General Secretary Mukul Wasnik on Monday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi approved Rajni Patil's candidature.
Rajni Patil is currently in-charge of the Congress for Jammu and Kashmir. She has been a member of the Rajya Sabha between 2013-18. She has also represented the Beed Lok Sabha constituency during 1996 to 1998. Congress Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Satav passed away this year after a corona virus infection, due to which the by-elections for the Upper House seat from Maharashtra is being held on October 4.
BJP Will Win Goa Elections With Full Majority: Fadnavis
BJP's newly appointed Goa election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said his party will win next year's assembly elections in the state with a full majority. Fadnavis also said the BJP parliamentary board meeting will decide on a pre-election alliance with similar ideology parties.
Fadnavis, who has been the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, is currently in Goa with Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Darshan Jardosh and is holding frequent meetings in view of next year's assembly elections. Reddy and Jardosh have been appointed as co-election in-charge of Goa.
Fadnavis told a press conference that the BJP is confident of victory with a full majority in the upcoming assembly elections due to the work done by the governments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the state. Replying to a question, Fadnavis said the BJP will fight the Goa elections unitedly and win a historic victory.
Significantly, in the 2017 state assembly elections, the Congress had won 17 out of 40 seats while the BJP had 13 seats. However, shocked the Congress, the Bhagwa party formed a government led by Manohar Parrikar along with independents and regional parties.
Fadnavis said that the BJP will miss former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who passed away in 2019. "But I want to tell that chief minister Pramod Sawant has handled the state administration better after Parrikar's death.
