Previously, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole stated that the position of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly belonged to his party, which currently has the majority of leaders among the coalition partners.

"According to the procedure, the position of LoP is awarded to the (opposition) party with the most representatives in the House. Since Congress is the largest party in the alliance, the opposition leader will be from our party, according to the process," he had said.

When asked if the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had lately made claim to the LoP seat, he answered, "It will be clear when we submit a letter to the Speaker."
