Bengaluru Violence: A violent mob went on a rampage on Tuesday night across eastern Bengaluru after the nephew of a Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy posted an objectionable Facebook post on Prophet Muhammad. The Bengaluru police have arrested Murthy’s nephew Naveen for the post and so far, three people died while around 60 police personnel have been injured in clashes.


According to reports, a large mob had gathered Murthy’s residence demanding the arrest of Naveen. The mob then rioted in DJ Halli, KG Halli and Pulakeshi Nagar causing vandalism and arson across the city.

Videos show that Murthi’s house have been left completely charred and broken by yesterday's violence.


The Congress legislator had appeald to the mob to give up violence. “Please don't resort to violence over the mischievous work of some miscreants," appealed Murthy. The mob was also seen opposite KG Halli police station in the city.  Another mob had barged into the DJ Halli police station and  torched some vehicles and vandalised furniture, proceeding to attack a few policemen. Hundreds of rioters raised slogans at the top of their voice and continuously banged the gate of DJ Halli police station.

Section 144 imposed

Police have imposed Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the city to prohibit the assembly of four or more persons in an area, while curfew has been imposed in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits.

"Section 144 of CrPC to prohibit the assembly of four or more persons in an area has been imposed in Bengaluru and curfew has been imposed in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits of the city," Bengaluru police commissioner said.
