'BJP Conducted Raids On Us But We Are Standing Strong': Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi In Raipur

Priyanka Gandhi asserted that during elections, issues not relevant to public interest are raised. She exhorted Congress workers to spread the message of the party and the "failures" of the Modi government.

New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, people expect the Opposition parties to unite and most of their expectations are pinned on the Congress. Speaking at the 85th plenary session of the Congress in Raipur, she also exhorted Congress workers to take the message of the party as well the "failures" of the Modi government to the people.

"Now only one year is left for us, there are expectations from us (Opposition), that we will unite. All the Opposition parties and people whose ideology is opposed to them (BJP), must fight unitedly. There are expectations from everyone but the most expectations are from the Congress," the Congress general secretary said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

While hailing the struggles of Congress workers to fight for the party, she said, "We know you have the courage to fight BJP, time has come to display that courage for the country".

Gandhi further said that the Congress has to build and strengthen the organisation right from the 'mandala' level.

According to news ANI, Gandhi asserted that during elections, issues that are not important for public welfare are raised.

"During elections, issues not relevant to the public are raised. Politics should be on how to tackle unemployment, strengthen GDP, take up our economy. BJP conducted raids on us but we are standing strong," she said.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Raipur on Saturday morning to attend the party's three-day 85th plenary session. To accord her a grand welcome, a stretch of road in front of the city airport was carpeted with a thick layer of rose petals. More than 6,000 kilograms of roses were used to decorate the road for about two km where folk artists wearing colourful traditional dresses were also seen performing on a long stage erected along the route, a Congress leader told PTI.

Meanwhile, her mother and brother, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi arrived on Friday to attend the plenary session that is being held from February 24 to 26.

Rahul Gandhi also addressed party delegates and three resolutions related to agriculture, youth, and social justice will be deliberated upon on the third and final day of the party's plenary session on Sunday.

The deliberations on the three resolutions continue till their passage after Gandhi's address.

During his address, Rahul said that he listened to all problems of farmers and realised their pain while on the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

"During Bharat Jodo Yatra I learned a lot. I walked for my nation from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Thousands connected to me & party during the yatra. I listened to all problems of farmers & realized their pain", Rahul Gandhi said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will deliver the concluding remarks at the plenary in the afternoon around 2 PM.

Then there will be a public meeting in Raipur that will be addressed by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Kharge, and Gandhi, bringing down the curtains on the 85th plenary session of the party.

On Saturday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi addressed leaders on the second day of the session. Also, political, economic, and international affairs resolutions were deliberated upon and passed yesterday.
