New Delhi: Lambasting Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath after the Supreme Court gave a green signal to OBC reservation in local elections in the state, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday alleged the grand old party always indulged in conspiracies and never intended to give justice to the OBC whom they considered just a vote bank.

“Congress and Kamal Nath always indulged in conspiracies. They never intended to give justice to OBC,” said Chouhan, ANI reported.

“They considered OBC just a vote bank and claimed, even without any facts or preparation, that they would do this and that even when they know that it is not going to happen,” he added.

Asserting “public knows the truth”, Chouhan said: “I ask him today why did their Advocate General not stand before the court when issue of 27% reservation came up? Why was an immediate stay given?”

“Kamal Nath, OBC is very intelligent. They know that you had sinned,” he added.

Meanwhile, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state and said that this case was not presented properly in the court.

“Madhya Pradesh had a backward population of 50%. As per the Supreme Court, it can only be done for 14%, this is injustice,” said Nath, ANI reported.

“The BJP didn't present the case properly in the court. We will look into it from a legal point of view,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court allowed OBC quota in local body elections of Madhya Pradesh.

An apex court bench headed by Justice A.M. Khanwilkar directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to notify local body elections in one week, IANS reported.

The order came on a plea by the Madhya Pradesh government seeking modification in the May 10 order, directing the SEC to notify the programme for local body polls within two weeks.

The apex court had earlier on May 10 directed the Madhya Pradesh SEC to commence the poll programme for over 23,000 local bodies and issue notification within two weeks.

The apex court made it clear no reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) can be provisioned until the state government completes the triple test formality.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Madhya Pradesh government submitted the second report of the OBC Commission during the hearing on its plea for modification of the May 10 order.

The state government, according to IANS, contended the OBC Commission’s report is in relation to the percentage of local body wise reservation and argued that the court should rely on this report.

The Madhya Pradesh government also requested the apex court to allow it to issue notification for the reservation for OBCs on its basis.

The government has for giving OBC reservation presented the 2011 population figures, according to which the total number of OBCs is reported to be 51 percent of the population.

The government believes that if OBCs get reservation on this basis then justice will be done to them.

The apex court had fixed the matter for Wednesday after hearing all the parties.
