New Delhi: The Congress leadership began the final round of deliberations to usher organisational reforms and articulate the party’s position on key issues besides challenges confronting the grand old party and the nation at a meeting of the CWC in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city, PTI reported. The dedicated panels after the two-day long deliberations on organisational, political, economic, agricultural, social justice and youth related issues during the brainstorming session ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’ submitted their reports to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The reports submitted by the dedicated panels will be given to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) for final approval.
With the Congress leaders debating tricky issues relating to ideology, economic policy and social engineering in the ‘Chintan Shivir’ panels, it now remains to be seen what shape these issues take in the ‘Nav Sankalp’ resolution to be adopted later in the day.
The leaders have held several rounds of deliberations during the past two days in the six panels formed by the Congress president, the news agency reported.
The resolution will be adopted at the CWC. The Congress will adopt the ‘Nav Sankalp’ declaration - the outcome of the three-day brainstorming conclave where over 450 Congress leaders participated.
The Congress will adopt the ‘Nav Sankalp’ declaration after three days of brainstorming at the Chintan Shivir in Udaipur held in the backdrop of a string of electoral defeats and dissent in the party for the past many years.
The ‘Chintan Shivir’ is concentrating on time-bound party restructuring, finding ways to contest politics of polarisation and getting battle-ready for the upcoming electoral contests.
The grand old party has made some important decisions, including the one family, one ticket proposal with exceptions based on high levels of performance in a party role for five years, as it eyes to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress has also decided to bring in a measure to ensure 50 percent representation to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs and minorities at all levels of the party organisation besides proportionate representation to the youth in a bid to revive its fortunes.
The grand old party is also proposing to promise granting legal guarantee to Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the farmers, besides granting 50 percent representation to those below 50 years of age and making unemployment a major issue in upcoming polls.
