New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said that people are troubled due to rising inflation, and unemployment but the Centre does not care about them. He added that Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra has made party's political rivals nervous.

Addressing party leaders and workers at the AICC headquarters in Delhi on the occasion of the 138th Foundation Day of the party, he said, "The basic principles of India are under constant attack. A pit of hatred is being dug all over the country. People are in trouble due to inflation, unemployment but the government does not care."

"To make Congress inclusive, we have to include youth, women, intellectuals and it has already begun through Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra. This has made our rivals nervous. We appeal to people to join this Yatra," he added.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party MP Rahul Gandhi, and other leaders are attending the event at the AICC office in Delhi.

Changing the traditions, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Mumbai on the foundation day of the party on Wednesday, reported ANI.

The foundation of the Indian National Congress was laid 137 years ago on December 28, 1885, in Bombay (Mumbai).  Every year since then, the party celebrates its foundation day on December 28. The main program is held at the national headquarters of Delhi where the National President of Congress hoists the party flag.

Now, Mallikarjun Kharge is going to change the tradition after 37 years. He will inaugurate the Foundation Day program in Mumbai after attending the program at the AICC office in Delhi.

The party, first time in the last 24 years, got a non-Gandhi President. Sonia Gandhi was made the Congress president in 1998 and in 2017, her son Rahul Gandhi was elected as a party president.

However, Rahul Gandhi resigned after party's pathetic performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Kharge was elected as the party president in October this year. He is focusing on giving a message to the party workers on every occasion that he has started meeting the people at the party headquarters without appointments, reported ANI.

The party won the Himachal Pradesh elections and lost the Gujarat polls after Kharge assumed office. Visiting the place where the foundation of the party was laid seems to be a symbolic message to party workers about the values of the party.
