In an unfortunate turn of events, Former India President Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday August 31, after being under deep coma for days post brain surgery.


The veteran politician and the stalwart of Indian politics, 84-year-old Mukherjee underwent brain surgery after he reportedly slipped in the bathroom and developed a blood clot in the brain. The former president was also found to be positive for novel Coronavirus infection on the day he underwent the operation at Delhi's Amy hospital.

His son Abhijit Mukherjee, who has been tweeting regular updates on his health, informed about the former president's demise.

Reacting upon the sad development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief. taking to his Twitter account, PM Modi said: India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society.


President of India Ram Nath Kovind also reacted on the sad news, "Hearing about the death of former President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the heart was shocked. His death is the end of an era. I express my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and all the countrymen of Shri Pranab Mukherjee."


Congress' Rahul Gandhi also extended condolences upon  Pranab Mukherjee demise. "With great sadness, the nation receives the news of the unfortunate demise of our former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee. I join the country in paying homage to him. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends," former Congress chief tweeted.


Home Minister Amit Shah also shared condolences on Pranab Mukherjee's demise, "Deeply anguished on the passing away of former President of India, Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee ji. He was a vastly experienced leader who served the nation with utmost devotion. Pranab da’s distinguished career is a matter of great pride for the entire country."
