RAIPUR: In a departure from the clamour for English medium education in well-known institutions, Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district collector has set an example by getting his five-year-old daughter admitted to a government school.

The collector, Avnish Kumar, has opted for Government Pragya Primary School of the District Headquarters for the primary level education of his daughter.

This is not the first time when Avnish has taken such a step, before this he had sent his daughter to the Aanganwadi school for studies.

This decision of Kumar served as a message to those parents who draw flaws in the government schools and then send their children to private institutions after paying huge amount in fees.

Avnish's step has also brought much-needed attention to government schools. It is obvious that the school in which the children of district collectors or higher officials will be admitted, the level of education of that school will get improved on its own.

At a time when people consider having their wards in private schools and English medium stream as status symbol, Avnish will serve as an inspiration to others.
