New Delhi: A clash broke out between supporters of Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai and and ex-CM and BJP leader Raghubar Das, on Friday, in the Sidhgora district of Jamshedpur. The scuffle was about organising the Chhath Puja event at Surya Mandir. According to ANI, the supporters of Rai had set up stalls for devotees near the stage where the supporters of Das were due to have a dance and music programme.

In a video shared by ANI, people are seen destroying the campsite by throwing chairs and destroying the tent set up. Several supporters also got into a fight with each other, leaving many injured.

After the incident, the supporters of MLA Saryu Rai reached the police station and lodged a case. Police sent the injured to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for treatment. Chhath Puja which began on Friday is the biggest festival in Jharkhand where preparations were in full swing since the day before.

Chhath Puja is one of Jharkhand's biggest festivals where families get together in celebration. Family members and relatives have started arriving from near and far, even as many faced difficulties in securing reservation for their train journey.

The main rituals at the water bodies will take place in the evening of October 30 and the next morning.

Every year, a large number of devotees gather at water bodies across the state such as ponds, rivers, reservoirs and lakes across Jharkhand to worship the rising and setting sun.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren had on Wednesday inspected the administrative preparations at Chhath ghats, checking cleanliness, safety measures and other facilities for the festivals, at Kanke Dam and Hatniya pond in Ranchi.

Soren directed the officials concerned to ensure barricading of vulnerable ponds to avoid any untoward incident. He also asked them to ensure cleanliness at the ghats.
