The Christmas spirit has gripped people across the globe with the sound of songs resounding in the air and gifts accelerating the excitement. Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, also became a part of this celebration at the Supreme Court on Monday. CJI Chandrachud sang carols during Christmas celebrations at the apex court. The Chief Justice started by singing one of his favourite Christmas carols, 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'.


He then went on to sing "We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" carol. 









The people around the Chief Justice also joined and sang the carols along with him.


 


SC Disposes Of Over 50,000 Cases In 2023: Report



Recently, a press release issued by the Supreme Court stated that the apex court disposed of 52,191 cases in 2023 as compared to 39,800 last year, making it the highest disposal rate in six years. Under the leadership of CJI DY Chandrachud, the apex court witnessed a growth rate of 33 per cent in terms of cases disposed of as compared to last year. 


According to a Bar and Bench report, a total of 45,642 miscellaneous and 6,549 regular matters were adjudicated this year. Between January 1, 2023, and December 15, 2023, 4,410 service matters, 11,489 criminal matters, and 10,348 civil matters were disposed of.


The release added, "If the disposal is compared with the total institution i.e. the number of cases diarised during the said period then also despite the huge number of filing of 52,660 cases the disposal matched the same neck to neck with 52,191 disposed cases."


Another key achievement under the leadership of CJI DY Chandrachud was that the timeframe for verification and listing of cases was streamlined and reduced from 10 days to seven days.
