New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested a Chinese woman for staying in India under a false identity and allegedly indulging in "anti-national activities", officials said on Thursday, as reported by PTI. The woman has been identified as Cai Ruo and is a native of Hainan province in China.
Ruo, who claimed to be a 'Buddhist monk', is suspected to be a Chinese spy, sources told IANS.
On the basis of information that Ruo is involved in "anti-national activities" and presently residing in India as a Nepalese citizen, she was detained from Majnu Ka Tila, a Delhi Police statement said.
During verification, a Nepalese citizenship certificate in the name of Dolma Lama was recovered from her. However, when inquired with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office, it was found that she is a Chinese citizen and had travelled to India in 2019, said the police as per PTI.
According to IANS, she entered Nepal through the Raniganj border area in West Bengal.

During interrogation by the Delhi Police she spoke fluent English, but did not know the Nepali language. The police also learnt that she can speak Chinese fluently, reported IANS.
A case has been registered against her under section 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Foreigners Act, police said.
A source told IANS that Cai Ruo is a "well-trained and cunning individual who tried to mislead the investigators by claiming that Chinese Communist leaders wanted to kill her and therefore, she fled to India".
"She told us that as she was Buddhist, the Communist leaders wanted to kill her. She had no other option but to flee China. However, we have found that she had been spying and was involved in anti-national activities," the source told IANS.
"She was living in India illegally as a Buddhist monk so that she could evade security agencies' scanners. She had been spying and hatching conspiracy against the nation. She had been found in the possession of fabricated documents, ID cards... we are taking this matter seriously," the source added.
Ruo, through her counsel Deepak Tyagi has moved a plea seeking permission from the officials to speak to her family members in China.
The intelligence agencies and the National Investigation Agency have also been informed about her arrest.
Further investigation is underway, they said.
