Talking about the matter, the MEA said that the Chinese side tried to unilaterally change the status quo in the Galwan Valley while India was upholding its side of the commitment.
"On late-evening & night of June 15, a violent face-off happened as a result of an attempt by the Chinese side to unilaterally change the status quo there. Both sides suffered casualties that could have been avoided had an agreement at a higher level been scrupulously followed by the Chinese side,": MEA stated.
The statement went on to express that the violence was avoidable as India has been responsible in terms of managing its borders and all activities have been within the Indian side. China also is expected to take care of what is its own.
"Given its responsible approach to border management, India is very clear that all its activities are always within the Indian side of the LAC. We expect the same as the Chinese side,": Ministry of External Affairs.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to updated him over the violent standoff and discuss the issue at length. The meeting took place at PM Modi's official residence in the national capital.

This response comes after Chinese foreign minister accused India of violating the consensus of the two sides by crossing the border. However, India has refuted the claims and denied any such allegations made by the Chinese Army.
Following multiple casualties being reported, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and three service chiefs met in the national capital to review the current situation.
Despite the recent rounds of talks and agreement on de-escalation of tensions at the Indo-China border in Ladakh, a violent face-off took place on Monday leading to the martyrdom of two Indian soldiers and an officer.
