Raipur: In a shocking incident, seven workers were rushed to hospital in Chhattisgarh’s Raigadh district on Thursday after being exposed to toxic gas leakage while cleaning a paper mill. The paper factory is reportedly located in Tetla village.


According to the early reports, at least seven workers were hospitalised. Among those, three workers are reportedly in critical condition and been shifted to Raipur. The rest four victims are being treated at a government hospital in Raigadh.

Confirming the horrific incident, Dipanshu Kabra, IG Bilaspur, in a tweet said that "Poisonous Gas has leaked from a paper industry, Shakti Papers while cleaning the plant . Seven labours have been admitted in hospital. 3 being shifted to Raipur for further treatment."


The officer further tweeted that "The paper mill is in village Tetla ps pusour district Raigarh Chhattisgarh"

Informing further on the incident, an Indian Express report quoted Superintendent of Police (Raigadh) Santosh Singh who stated that the officials were reported of the incident by hospital authorities.

“We were not informed about the incident. We got to know about it from the hospital. We are monitoring the situation and will take legal action on the mill owner.” Superintendent of Police (Raigadh) Santosh Singh said.

Meanwhile, a team of forensic experts has been dispatched to the spot to ascertain the exact reason behind the leakage.

The development comes on a day when at least ten people including a minor, were reported dead in a major gas leak mishap at LG Polymers chemical plant, Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam.
