Bilaspur: Former Chief Minister and Chhattisgarh Janata Congress founder Ajit Jogi’s Amit was arrested in a fake certificate case from his residence here on Tuesday. This comes days after an FIR was registered against Ajit Jogi in Bilaspur police station following a panel report refusing to recognise him as a tribal.
Bilaspur District Superintendent of Police Prashant Aggarwal said that Amit Jogi has been accused of offering false information about his place of birth during the 2013 assembly elections.
The Superintendent of Police said that in February this year, Sameera Paikra, a candidate from Marwahi Assembly seat on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party, had filed a case against Amit Jogi at Gorela police station in the district. Sameera alleged that Amit Jogi's birth place is in America, whereas in his affidavit during the 2013 assembly elections, the birth place was mentioned as Sarbahra village of Gorela region. Paikra alleged that Jogi wrongly obtained a certificate of birth in Sarabhara village.
SP Prashant Aggarwal said that Amit Jogi was arrested today after six months of investigation.
Amit Jogi was arrested amid heavy police deployment in the early hours of Tuesday. His supporters held a protest outside his residence. They alleged the police action was a police vendetta by the Bhupesh Baghel-led government in the state.
